Full Bio
Michael Fahrner (he/him) is a passionate euphonium artist based in Philadelphia, PA. Highlights of the 2026-27 season include the world premier of composer Erin Busch’s new euphonium concerto with the Rowan University Wind Ensemble, a consortium with composer Steven Wilkinson for euphonium and high school wind band, and solo recitals at the University of North Georgia and in the Southeast US. A dedicated pedagogue, Fahrner currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Euphonium at Rowan University and maintains private studios in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. He previously served as Assistant Director of the Atlantic Youth Brass Band and on the brass faculty at Settlement Music School. An avid chamber musician, Fahrner is a member of the LP Quartet, a tuba-euphonium quartet focused on new works and educational outreach. The LP Quartet is regularly invited to present at schools and to perform at conferences. Recent appearances include the New England Band Directors Institute and the 2025 International Women’s Brass Conference, where the group premiered Erin Busch’s I wandered lonely as a cloud and Kyle Grimm’s Never Too Far From Home. Fahrner relentlessly advocates for the euphonium by commissioning new and adventurous works. In 2026 Michael premiered Jay Krush’s Kenjockety for Euphonium and Wind Band, Dan Virgen’s reimagination of J.B. Arban’s Fantasie Brillante, and Fahrner’s own suite of lyrical transcriptions for solo euphonium. Other commission highlights include Bryan Wysocki’s Plato’s Cave, for solo euphonium and prepared euphonium and piano and Ivan Markovik’s Calling, Thinking, Partying for euphonium and flute duo. As an ensemble player, Fahrner previously held chairs with the Atlantic Brass Band, a North American Brass Band Association Championship Ensemble, from 2019-2023 (featured soloist), and the Philadelphia Wind Symphony. He also was a member of the Novi Duo, a flute and euphonium duo. Fahrner served as the festival chair for the 2023 & 2024 Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival, hosting 280+ participants for a two-day British brass band festival and Michael worked at SchoolofBrass.com, an online brass education community that hosted masterclasses and live streams with top international brass artists, the International Euphonium Tuba Festival, and the Atlanta Homeward Choir. Fahrner is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Euphonium Performance at Temple University. He received his Bachelor of Music in Euphonium Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he studied with Dr. John Bottomley, and earned his Master of Music in Euphonium Performance from Georgia State University, where he studied with Eric Bubazc and Dr. William Mann. Fahrner was also a longtime student of Dr. Adam Frey, international euphonium soloist. Follow along with Fahrner on Instagram and TikTok as @mikeplayseuph, or on YouTube.
